According to 2 recent studies that have been relayed to the press by scientists of the environmental health network (RES), artificial sweeteners, as aspartame, would cause preterm birth and cancers in male mice. Indeed, the RES sounds the alarm and considers urgent to reassess the current regulations regarding artificial sweeteners.

The Anses said that it would «immediately examine these new studies for potential recommendations to the French authorities and, if appropriate, a referral to the EFSA».

It should be noted that if the light soft drinks and sugar substitutes are directly implicated in these 2 studies, many other products are also involved as chewing gum.
