Hovis Hearty Oats is the first bread developed with 50% flour replaced by oats. According to Premier Foods, 2 slices of bread provide one third of recommended daily intake of beta-glucans (3g), which can help maintain normal cholesterol levels. In its opinion in October 2009, EFSA has acknowledged the causal relationship between beta-glucans consumption and the reduction of blood cholesterol levels and concluded that the wording ” Regular consumption of beta-glucans contributes to maintenance of normal blood cholesterol concentrations” reflects the scientific evidence at the minimal dose of 3g/day beta-glucans.
