After the publication of the new EFSA guidance related to bone, joints, skin and oral health (cf. article of NutraverisPost on this topic), the European experts in health and nutrition have been consulted by Nutraingredients on the contribution of this document. For Nutraveris, even if the main part of the guidance brings only few interesting information, it allows the recruitment of a borderline population for future clinical studies on joints. Since health claims related to joint have been highly impacted by negative opinions, the opportunity may rekindle hope for market operators.

The last 14th april 2010, EFSA published a scientific opinion on steviol glycosides, the sweet components extracted from the leaf of the stevia plant (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) are harmless for the health on their use in foods and beverages. EFSA has also established their daily intake, expressed as steviol equivalent, of 4 mg/kg/day for safe consumption.
